"
I always insist that we treat each and every customer as if she were our one and only customer. I can't imagine doing business any other way."
These are the words of Eddie Smith, National's founder and my father. And like my daddy before me, I can't imagine doing business any other way either! I'm proud to continue the legacy that he started more than 50 years ago. And I'm both lucky and blessed to share that tradition of service and smiles with great customers like you.
Let me tell you a little story about my daddy...
Eddie Smith lived and breathed North Carolina. He lived in Lexington almost all of his life. Back in the early 1950s, Lexington was the heart of America's hosiery-knitting country, and a little thing called direct mail was introducing itself to mailboxes across the country. Eddie was young and full of energy, eager to provide for his family – his beloved wife, Sarah and two little ones, Eddie Jr. and Lynda (yes, that's me!).
A humble visionary, Eddie realized a formula for success. He saw an opportunity combine his burgeoning hosiery shop with this newfangled mail order concept. So in September of 1952, Eddie sent out a simple 8-1/2 x 11 flyer. Would it work? Would it stumble? Well, he and his three loyal co-workers sat in anticipation, and sure enough, they received and filled their very first order – a dozen pair of hose, shipped right to the customer's doorstep.
And the rest, as they say, is history!
Here we are, more than 50 years, 200 co-workers and, best of all, millions of satisfied customers later. A lot has changed in that time. We've grown from Daddy's little hosiery outlet to offer an entire line of apparel for the mature woman. With hosiery came lingerie, sleepwear and loungers, tops and pants, and so much more. We guarantee everything we sell 100%, down to the very last thread, just like that very first pair of hosiery. We work hard to find styles and sizes that will fit you right, fabrics that will cradle you in comfort, and colors and prints you'll want to wear again and again.
But despite new trends, new merchandise and ever-changing needs, the one thing that hasn't changed at National is our dedication to the customer. We know her. We love her. And we want to take care of her. We want to listen to her on the phone. We want to carefully pack and send her order. We want her be comfortable, not only in her clothes, but comfortable that she's got a garment that will last.
We want her to know that she'll get the same attention to those not-so-little details every time she graces us with her presence. She's got friends at National. And let me tell you, no matter what happens, that's never going to change! So many of you have written to tell me your thoughts and ideas. Do you know how happy that makes me? Tickled! So keep them coming. If you have something to say or share pick up a phone or a pen and tell us what else we can do for you. That's what friends do!
You know, no one will ever be like my daddy. He was one of a kind. But his impact and influence on this company lives on. We do our best every day to live up to his promise, and I vow to continue that legacy. I can say without any hesitation that our customers are family, from my daddy, to me to you. Family. That's what National is all about.
