Incontinence
Brought on as a side effect of another condition, incontinence is not uncommon. In the United States, more than thirteen million people are estimated to experience a form of incontinence – 85% of them women.

While it can be caused by a range of conditions – including pregnancy, childbirth, pelvic surgery, spinal injury, and cognitive degeneration such as Alzheimer’s disease – incontinence can cause discomfort and embarrassment, frequently preventing sufferers from seeking their doctor’s help. Often, however, incontinence can benefit from treatment, and because it may indicate the presence of a serious health condition, it should always be brought to your doctor’s attention.

Discretion, comfort – and peace of mind
For those experiencing any type of incontinence, National offers a variety of products designed to prevent discomfort, maintain hygiene, provide quick, easy access during frequent bathroom visits – and bring peace of mind. From absorbent undergarments and half slips to bed pads, our high quality incontinence products are designed to make the best of a difficult condition.

Types of Incontinence
There are four types of bladder incontinence, each with unique causes, symptoms, and possible treatments:
  • Stress Urinary Incontinence – brought about by pelvic muscle damage, this common form of incontinence disproportionately affects women during exercise, or when sneezing, laughing or coughing.
  • Urge Incontinence and Overactive Bladder – characterized by a sudden, urgent need to go to the bathroom, this condition is brought about by nerve damage that affects signals to the brain. This is often brought about by Alzheimer’s, stroke, and MS – and can be a symptom of Overactive Bladder, which may respond well to treatment.
  • Mixed Incontinence – when both Stress and Urge incontinence are present, it is referred to as Mixed Incontinence. One is typically more pronounced than the other, and treatments may vary according to the cause.
  • Chronic Retention – when the bladder’s capacity is exceeded, incontinence may result. This can be brought on by a number of conditions, and affects both men and women

Fecal incontinence is estimated to afflict more than six million people in the U.S. This form of incontinence is often responsive to treatment – but many sufferers do not seek help due to embarrassment.
