Mastectomy
Following a mastectomy, most women face the challenge of coming to terms with an unfamiliar body image – and regaining confidence shaken by their diagnosis and surgery. Fortunately, manufacturers, recognizing the needs of post-mastectomy women, have developed a broad range of high quality products to enhance comfort – and restore self esteem.

Delivering comfort, fit and self-esteem
At National, our mastectomy products are designed with comfort, quality and appearance in mind. From advanced, anatomically-authentic breast forms to comfortable mastectomy bras to flattering mastectomy camisoles, our products recognize the importance of self-image – while providing unmatched comfort and performance.

Types of Breast Cancer Surgery
Depending on individual circumstances – including the severity, breast size and the patient’s genetic background, there are several different types of surgery used to treat breast cancer.
  • Lumpectomy – this process is the least dramatic, and involves removal of the cancer, a portion of the surrounding tissue, and, in some circumstances, one or more lymph nodes to ensure the cancer has not spread.
  • Partial Mastectomy – this involves the removal of the cancer and a more significant portion of the normal tissue around it. Surgery may also remove lining over the chest muscles, as well as some lymph nodes under the patient’s arm
  • Simple Mastectomy – removal of the entire affected breast, plus some of the lymph nodes beneath the arm.
  • Modified Radical Mastectomy – this procedure removes the entire affected breast, the lining over the chest muscles, lymph nodes beneath the arm, and occasionally, portions of the chest wall muscles.
  • Radical Mastectomy – this procedure, once the standard treatment, is less frequently undertaken. It involves the removal of the entire breast, the lining over the chest muscles, the underlying chest muscles and the lymph nodes beneath the arm.
