A Mountain of New Memories
It’s a beautiful spring weekend in Wilmington, and yet my heart is longing for some mountain air. As we get our littles ready for a trip to Blowing Rock in the near future, it had me dreaming up the early days of my relationship with Thomas.
We met in 2006 and spent every single open weekend driving west for an all-day hike. We would start a trail around 9:00 a.m., find a beautiful outdoor lunch nearby, stroll the town shops and head back to Raleigh. Yes – we did 5-hour round-trip drives on the regular just for a change of scenery.
There is something pretty thrilling about time in the car with someone you love, spontaneously driving towards a new spot you’ve never visited. I miss those days in our relationship, but I am grateful for the memories we now make with our wild bunch at the top of Grandfather Mountain. While we haven’t braved a full hike with our crew, we’re preparing for a summer adventure on some of our favorite easier trails in the area.
