I wish I could hop on one big FaceTime date with our entire ShopNational community and snuggle up with a warm cup of coffee as we navigate these unprecedented days. In full transparency, I have been hunting hard for silver linings in the midst of this chaos. We are nearing our due date with our new additions, and I have struggled with anxiety leading up to a hospital stay with new small babies and no family to care for our daughter (as we are all isolated during this time).
This past weekend, my husband could see the writing on the wall and planned a perfect weekend of outside time for the family to enjoy. We have been so fortunate to have tremendous weather here in Wilmington. Last weekend, we strolled through a large garden and enjoyed learning about new flowers and tree types (Airlie Gardens is a must see on your next trip to Wilmington). Because we arrived early in the morning, we practically had the gardens to ourselves – idyllic for social distancing! Later that afternoon, Thomas and Hatton went on a nature walk around our neighborhood and found a baby turtle to bring back to our yard (he has been safely released – but not before Hatton named him “frog.” Ironic).
On Sunday morning, we got ourselves onto the water and found an uninhabited sandbar to enjoy together. From oyster shell hunting to sand castle construction, it was the greatest two hours I’ve had in a long long time. We cooked a big dinner that night and spent sunset on the porch, sidewalk chalk in hand. As I told Thomas – the entire weekend felt (almost) normal.
What activities have you invested in to create some “normalcy” in abnormal times? Share with me in the comment section below – especially now, I love connecting with you and your families.
